Went on a Monday night with my wife. Lucky enough to have a window seat. We got there early and were well looked after in the bar beforehand before our table was ready. All team members of the restaurant seemed very well briefed and we were exceptionally well looked after at the table by Simon. He knew the dishes well and recommended some specific small plates and tasters which worked for us.Food was superb and couldn’t be faulted.100% would recommend and looking forward to returning. Next time perhaps with a larger group so we can explore their wine list a bit more.
I admit I have not had much experience at dining out in this sort of restaurant. So glad I went. The staff made you feel very welcome. The food was sensational. Best restaurant food I have ever tasted. Loved the whole vibe of the place. It gave me a feeling how the other half must live. Worth every cent
Stoke House is unequivocally my favorite restaurant from my first visit to Melbourne. In fact, I would seriously contemplate relocating to Melbourne solely for the pleasure of dining at this remarkable establishment. It raises a curious question about Michelin inspectors—do they truly have less work to do? It's perplexing why Australia has yet to be graced with any Michelin-starred restaurants, especially Stoke House. The absence of recognition for such an exceptional venue is baffling. The quality of this restaurant is outstanding, and it has firmly established itself as the finest dining experience I have encountered thus far in Australia. While I have grown somewhat fatigued by mediocre dining options, Stoke House transcends this, offering not only exquisite food but also an unwavering commitment to impeccable service. For example, any glass touched by staff is promptly replaced, ensuring that each subsequent guest receives a pristine dining experience.Their attention to detail is truly commendable. On the second day of my stay, we opted to have lunch at Stoke House again, and as soon as I tasted the second dish, I couldn't help but approach the owner with a request to return for lunch the following day.I wanted to ensure that this Melbourne trip left no room for regret. Thus, we dined there for lunch on two consecutive days.Unlike the first day, we were seated in a prime location with breathtaking views. I ordered the Winter Experience Menu once more, and each dish was nothing short of extraordinary.Particularly unforgettable was the Yellowfin tuna belly paired with melon bite. The moment it touched my palate, it melted like butter, enveloping me in an exquisite flavor that felt transcendent.I was in culinary heaven. As depicted in the accompanying photo, I couldn't resist ordering two additional pieces to prolong that blissful experience. If you find yourself in Melbourne this winter, I implore you to indulge in the WinterExperience Menu; to forgo it would mean missing out on a plethora of fresh and delicious seafood offerings. On the second day, prior to enjoying a beautifully prepared duck and steak, the kitchen surprised us with a sizable black truffle, expertly shaved into nearly ten generous slices. The indulgence was remarkable. This is a rare instance where I have developed such an admiration for a restaurant;I sincerely hope that it garners more visibility and acclaim, particularly from Michelin representatives.Surely it’s time for them to take notice. Moreover, the preparation of the duck skin was executed with finesse, resulting in a dish that was both crispy and juicy—truly impressive. There are countless other details I would love to reserve for my own digital platform. In conclusion, Stoke House, I eagerly anticipate our reunion in October.I am determined to visit Melbourne at least twice a year for this outstanding restaurant, hoping to see your menu continue to reflect the allure of your star-quality offerings.👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic dinner and drinks two weeks in a row! Food and drinks are delicious and fabulous service.Great view but is such a vibe no matter where you sit. Thanks for having us!
We celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday as a family at Stokehouse last night. It was a perfect evening- Stokehouse for me is still Melbourne's best when it comes to food, service and creating a sense of occasion. Our waitress Clare deserves special mention as she was excellent. A really special night. Thank you.
Beautiful location with stunning decor, food was great . Small portions with delicate flavours balanced to perfection. Hats off to the chef. Where we were let down was with the wine- I asked for a fruity, rounded flavour non acidic white - we were looking at the Pinot Gris but didn’t know any of the wines on the list. I took the advice of the sommelier and we got a bottle of french chenin Blanc. It was okay , dry, acidic, short on the palate, it didn’t open up and offered nothing. My husband remarked that all that conversation and I got the opposite of why I asked for. We did tell the sommelier who offered a reduction on what we hadn't drunk! The men at the table weren’t wasting either. But it spoilt my experience - which is a shame. In general The staff were lovely.
It's pretty disappointing experience overall. We chose to have chef tasting menu for a lunch with the wine paring. I told to the staff that my partner was looking for a car parking and would arrive in 5 mins, then they started to be unhappy. The staff were keen to rush to throw all the dishes as fast as they could as they have 'seating hours' for each table. We felt pretty shocked as we thought it was 'fine dinning'.The entree was ok except beef tartare, as the sliver skin wasn't removed properly in my portion. The second course was a seafood platter as shown on the menu picture I uploaded. It wasn't perfect dish as well, as the baby lettuce root already turned red/brown (red circle in my picture). I believe everyone knows it means it was not fresh.Third course was John Dory with Tarragon sauce. Yes, you didn't read wrongly. It was tarragon sauce which was already used in the seafood platter with abalone. I felt surprised that when the chef picking what to be on this tasting menu, why to choose 'duplicated' ingredient. Then I found under the fish, they used 'fresh' part of baby lettuce as the base. I checked their website to have a look at their normal menu, then I figured out why there are 'duplicated' courses on the tasting menu. It's because the chef didn't create the tasting menu but just simply chose what they have on the normal menu and copy paste onto this fine dinning menu. Before the fourth course, the waiter pour the matching wine into my partner's glass when he went to the rest room. So he had a glass of 'unknown' wine with no explaination as to what it was for the wine paring. The last dessert was directly sent to our table with the simpliest explaination - That's coconut sorbet with chocolate ball - that's the original wording from the serving staff. I was shocked again, as I believe such a complex dessert having more introduction/explaination about the ingredients and how to cook, but obviously the staff didn't want to spend time on it. If the staff themselves don't feel proud of what they can provide to the customers, how could customers feel pleasant?Once we finished the dessert, one staff told us to leave the table asap as the seating time would expire soon.We spent $578 including the drink for two.I believe everyone will expect more from this price point, but apparently we didn't get it.We've been a lot of fine dinning places in Melbourne and that's the first one I will leave the negative feedback. The reason why I gave two star is one for the view and the other one for the chef who did create/cook the dish and had no idea how the service staff treat their hard working.I don't understand why Time Out lists this place as top 50. The place would like to do more things rather than casual dinning, but the staff didn't get trained well for the fine dinning experience. There are much more for this restaurant to improve. The beach view is the advantage, but it shouldn't reply on this point only to get a sustainable path and longivity in this industry.By spending this price point, there are a lot of other restaurants to go.
This was a great night out with some of the best seafood we've had. Only complaint is that we were charged for a bottle of wine That we didn't order (we did order wine but only a half botte) only we were talking to staff and didn't notice- a lesson in checking the bill. Still a great night though.
Great food! We went there for an engagement party and we had really good time over there, very nice food ready for us and awesome services definitely left a strong impression towards the couple, also we enjoyed the environment in the restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere and sunlight, completely made us day. We will return here as costumers once more, we sincerely happy for our friends for their engagement in the restaurant.
Disappointed!I visited as Solo diner on Saturday night.Nobody at the door to welcome guests. I approached the bar and ask if I could have dinner. Definitely, but at the Bar.Seated, I was the only one at the counter although there were empty tables I could seat. Anyway I like the counter because I can interact more with the staff.(maybe)Menu give without any explanation or suggestion.Asked for the wine list (all wines are for A$79. Nice, but not all worth the price) and ordered a bottle of good Australian wine. The Barman served me the first glass mentioning it was a good choice. He took the food order, I specific ask for an appetizer and the Lamb for main. Here stars the disappointment.Waited for 17 minutes without anything, not either the cutlery or some water. Only the wine and the glass that actually I have to refill by myself for the entire dinner. Then food arrived together, two dishes together. I mean why? I’ve ask for two course not all together. Then arrived the cutlery. Quality of food was good. Can’t complain about it.Then a Spanish waitress named Oli helped me out with dessert order, also shared her favorite, well done! The cannoli was very good!I got the chance to chat with her for few seconds, and it was nice to hear her story. it was what I was expecting as service on a Good Restaurant. A simple good service, which unfortunately didn’t happen. As you can see on the last photo, the managers were so busy on their laptops that couldn’t realize my glass was always empty, and nobody took care of me throughout the evening. PLEASE IMPROVE, you have all the tools to do better!
Walked in, was very busy, however the team was very helpful and could get us a table fairly quickly. It was a tad bit expensive, however the beachside view and amazing food made up for it.I had the Barramundi Peperonata. Not only did it look amazing, but it was absolutely delicious.Would highly recommend and I would go again if I happen to be in the area again.
The delicate flavours of each dish were incredible and made our anniversary dinner extra special. The food and service were impressive but the atmosphere was hindered by the extreme noise. Not sure if much can be done to improve that unless the acoustics are reviewed. All in all, it was a lovely dinner and highly recommend it.
Just superb in every respect. The entree seafood platter was wonderful and we appreciated being able to substitute the abalone for other seafood delights. We all had the Black Angus steak and agreed that it was the best we'd ever had. Seriously good. Dessert and drinks all top notch. The service was impeccable, warm and engaging without being intrusive. Also knowledgeable. And we had a window seat. What more could you ask?
Stokeshouse delivers a top-notch, romantic dining experience. Attentive service, an impressive wine selection, and beautifully presented dishes create an unforgettable visit. It's undoubtedly one of the finest spots for an intimate meal, setting the stage for a memorable culinary journey. Highly recommended for those seeking exceptional fine dining.
I came to this place because the Donovans is still close :(OK, here we go.Like the food, it has a good quality and taste. However, I can't find the "wow" effect on it, but it is still good. Very nice atmosphere. Like it. 👍
Had an exceptional experience here for my wife’s birthday celebration. The food is so delicious, the staff are excellent, cocktails are very special, and the view is absolutely stunning. Will definitely have to bring the family back for more.
Great dinning option for a special event, excellent service and attention to detail, friendly staff. The menu was great though a little difficult to navigate some of the lingo, also would’ve appreciated some wine recommendations to pair the dishes would’ve been great. Minor things though. The venue, ambience and view were all outstanding, missed this place, haven’t been here since before it burnt down. Gorgeous renovation though!
As a wedding reception venue, Stokehouse ticks all the boxes! 👏🏻✨ Incredible food, drinks and service, insane location with sunset views of the beach 💗 It really cannot be faulted! I loved photographing a wedding there recently - a Melbourne venue favourite! 🍸🍸
