I had high tea here for my wedding anniversary recently - a Melbourne bucket list item for me. It did not disappoint. We were well looked after and the food and drink were fantastic.
A lovely place to stay for something different. Great location and it was close to our event we went too. Very easy to check in at our late arrival. Lovely breakfast in the morning - in an amazing room.Such a stunning place with such a beautiful history.
Always awesome. Room 310 for the win. The team are fantastic. Yes the hot water takes some time to get to the tap, but for all the antiquity of the place there is so much to love and cherish.
Beautiful old hotel. The staff are exceptional in their efficiency, manner and willingness to assist. It is an old hotel and that is its attracting charm. The location is good in that it is cbd and close to some attractions, restaurants and public transport.Excellent in room dining - very fast, well priced and tasty (ordered the Windsor tasting platter and no delivery/room service fee ‘added’ - well done!).A quick win would be to upgrade the room coffee and tea amenities. They are not worthy of the Bates motel… why do high end ($$$) establishments offer bates motel level offerings in this area - and too many do.We did have a problem with room heating (sweltering) but we’re able to open the window providing some relief.
The Hotel Windsor Melbourne is a wonderful hotel!! Loved our 4 night get away last week!! Staff were FANTASTIC!!Can't wait to come back soon, & stay with you again!!- Patricia, Bundaberg Queensland.
We stayed in the King George V suite for our wedding - the rooms were lovely! We were overwhelmed with the elegance and space, both of which were absolute highlights. We felt like royalty!Underneath that, the place feels a bit dated, and I'd love to see a refresh/renovation.Having said that, the slightly faded vibe doesn't take anything away from the experience, and it is such a pleasant change from the corporate feel of other hotels. There's nothing like the grace and style of a Grand Hotel 😀
An opulent high tea at an exceptionally reasonable price. We got to experience the luxury of the hotel in the dining hall, champagne was being refilled regularly and the staff were in tune with our needs. The cakes and desserts were beautiful and delicious, and perfectly themed for the Windsor, an institution. The food was perfectly bite sized and our entire group was full by the time we left! Wonderful atmosphere, the most perfect high tea experience
Great heritage hotel. For those who love heritage kind of stuff. Food was good and nice service. But the lift was broken, one was completely out of action, the other was slow and does not come up to level 2 to pick up passenger - so one way up and stairs back down! Room is small but well maintained. The bathroom is very old - would do well with a bit of upgrade.
Had a pleasant stay at the Hotel Windsor, we were especially satisfied with the concierge service and the pillow menu provided in rooms. (One suggestion would be to provide a few words to describe each pillow, as the names alone leave much to the imagination). The beds however were a bit stiff and rocked a lot from any movement - which could keep your bed partner awake 🥲Housekeeping kept our room tidy each day which was appreciated with fresh towels and bathroom restocked, and interactions with staff in the lobbies or hallways was pleasant. One fault, not of the hotels, is that we could often hear the protests across the road during the afternoon hours.I'd recommend the Hotel Windsor to anybody interested in it's history, however I withdraw points purely because the cost to stay doesn't seem to match with the room quality or hotel amenities. I could find a cheaper hotel closer to the city centre with similar services, and will probably do so for our next stay in the city.
We didn't order any service so couldn't tell, it's a beautiful hotel, and the list of guests posted by the elevators include - well - everyone famous. I loved it. Also, you can have a 1 hour shower and the hot water does not run out.
Overall, our experience was good at the hotel. We chose this place for our getting ready location for wedding. We booked the windsor suite and it had such stunning view. The whole premise was very much of an antique vibe with its antique furniture.
All the 5 star reviews seem to be of the tea, and nothing else. We checked in, the payment would not take our card. We were both on hold for forty minutes calling the bank to see what the issue was, the bank confirmed the card was fine and they finally tried it on their other payment device and it worked no problem. They did not apologize, told us to leave the hotel when my friend asked for an apology, threatened to call the police and did not refund us. Also charged our card for an extra 100 on top of what they said the price (including hold) was.
Beautiful old Hotel, fantastic service. Comfy bed and well appointed room. My only criticism is our room was next to the service elevator and we could hear it running all day / night.
Great traditional hotel. Fantastic experience. We loved the pillow menu.Great dinning hall - where we had a beautiful breakfast. One of the best coffees in the CBD.
From the time we arrived until we left we had the most fantastic experience. We stayed 2 nights in a lovely deluxe room to celebrate my 70th birthday. We enjoyed daily delicious breakfasts, 2 elegant High Teas & our daughter joined us for dinner at the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a bottle of wine and delectable chocolates plus a pretty card. I also received special birthday plate greetings at the High Tea & dinner. The service from everyone was excellent. Thank you for making my 70th so memorable. 🙂
Our family had a wonderful winter wedding at The Windsor. Those who stayed there loved it. The wedding in the Grand Ballroom was perfect. Great food, reasonably priced. The Cricketers Arms bar and breakfast room were terrific. Above all the service was professional, friendly and welcoming. Thanks so much.
I came to Melbourne for my Musical Goddess’ Hamer Hall anniversary concert. I decided to treat myself with a Sojourn at the Hotel Windsor as I had such a lovely experience last year. Second stay didn’t disappoint. Also had Afternoon Tea…Thank you for a lovely experience for my friend’s and my birthday celebration. The food was absolutely gorgeous and despite not breakfasting in readiness, we still struggled to consume it all. Our servers were wonderful! And I love that the Hotel Windsor gives the experience its proper name, not calling it High Tea, as many incorrectly do! I’m a historian so it really annoys me. I look forward to experiencing Afternoon Tea with you again!
Loved the heritage charm inside and out. The room we stayed in was very clean, nice modern bathroom with a lot of old character still left inside. We absolutely loved the old decor and furniture, even the carpet - it added to the fun of staying in this hotel! We had a great view of parliament as well. Comfortable bed and the room was very quiet, and what a fabulous location. We would definitely stay here again. Anyone who complains about the building being old and outdated obviously doesn't understand the history of this building. If you don't like old and outdated stay somewhere modern. History lovers will appreciate this place more!
Absolute luxury and old world charm, combined with friendly, personal and helpful service made this a stay to remember. The hotel itself is just beautiful, and well maintained. Excellent location, walking distance to everywhere, and free tram stops and railway station and buses at the doorstop. The room was huge, with very nice appointments, large comfy bed, and stylish, functional bathroom. Cricketers bar and restaurant are a must do, and the food, especially the breakfast is first class. Was doing a 5000km road trip on the Harley, and must say the staff and hotel were all "bike friendly"! The staff here also made the stay that extra bit special, with their genuine warmth and attentiveness. Will definitely be back.
